Local Record Stores
We’ve listed some of the most popular record stores in Canada on our blog. You can also visit the Record Store Day Canada website where you can search for local stores in your area.
Turntables
Turntables are the heart of your hifi system. The sound quality and output is unparalleled, they will never be replaced by their digital counterparts in terms of feel and authenticity to a live performance.
Powered Speakers
Gone are the massive, wall filling cabinets of components needed to enjoy your music. These powered speakers include a phono preamp so you can plug your turntable into them directly. The main difference between the models featured here is size, however the Kanto TUK’s utilize premium materials to create a true audiophile grade experience.
Receivers
If you want to go the more traditional route, you will be looking for a receiver and passive speakers. Your receiver will provide power for your speakers, as well as contain some EQ settings, and the ability to switch between audio sources. Originally only a 2 channel receiver would be used for a HiFi Stereo, but today all modern multi-channel receivers have the ability to switch to 2 channel stereo mode.

Passive Speakers
Unlike the powered speakers above, these passive speakers must be plugged into a receiver to receive power and create sound. The advantage here is that you can swap out speakers while keeping the same receiver to upgrade your sound. This category also includes higher end tower speaker options which offer incredible sound throughout the frequency range.
Accessories
Cables, surge protectors, and cleaning equipment are an important part of your hifi system.
