Best sound bar I have ever heard.

I’ve been using the sound bar for a week now and I’m ready to give it an honest review. The N850 is just plain amazing. Dialog is crystal clear at all times and the syncs great with the other channels during action scenes. After apples update I was able to send Atmos and all I have to say is the I wish every program was in that format. It blew me away! I can go on and on about how much I enjoy this thing but I won’t bore you. Now I have a few cons. I wish the add on rear speaker kit was the same one as the N950 and not the wired one, I just didn’t want to shell out $400 for rear speakers. Second, only Dolby Atmos is displayed when it’s on, I wish there was away to see what ever format was being used. I’m hoping future updates might change this. But overall I’m very please with my purchase.

    Great sound/only one complaint

I love the sound from this soundbar. The bass is enough to rumble my large living room. The sound takes over the room and sounds great from high to mid to low. Listening to the T-Rex scene from Jurassic Park on Netflix on level 40 (out of 100 I think) was amazing, from the rain to the roars. It really made you feel like you were in the movie. This is, of course, not as nice as a true dedicated setup, but it sounds fantastic and doesn’t leave you with wires all over the place. For me, it paired with the sub automatically without issue, and I was able to download the app and connect with seemingly no issues as well. My ONLY complaint is that there seems to be no way to tell what signal is being processed by the soundbar. It doesn’t seem to display it anywhere, there are apparently no LEDs, and it’s not even on the app. This all seems rather strange to me, as I assume most will want to know if true Atmos signal is being sent to it or whatever. I am curious myself if I am sending it atmos or 5.1…but like I said, I cannot tell from the soundbar or the app. Maybe this can be fixed in the app. Anyways, the sound outweighs that issue. I love a true surround setup best for sure, but this is REALLY nice if you are wanting an easy setup of something that sounds spectacular. Your friends will be impressed!

    Great sound, not very smart

The speaker sounds phenomenal; more power than you’ll ever need and crystal clear, but has a few annoyances. It turns itself off automatically when pausing media for more than 5 minutes. I have to constantly turn it back on every time I sit down to resume a show. Why is this not something that can be changed in the settings? When using the hdmi inputs in the soundbar, you miss out on the ease of use that the samsung tv inputs provide (auto recognition, clean source selection), but you cannot hear the full capability of the speaker if you use the tv inputs, so it’s either user friendly, or best sound, but not both. I thought that samsung tv and soundbar would marry together more seamlessly.

    Sounds Good

Unfortunately it does not connect to WiFi even through smartthings, even though they adverstise as such.
Samsung support has given multiple excuses why it doesn’t work but no resolution.
I know it’s not my soundbar because I exchanged it and the new one does the exact same thing.

Very Good Sound Bar But There Are Issues

I purchased HW-N850 Sept 24 and I can say I’m happy with my purchase. I have the soundbar connected to my 2015 JS8500 through ARC and my Apple 4k Tv and Sony 4k blu Ray player. I had the Xbox one X connected but opted for Sony player. The sound from his is amazing and subwoofer packs a mighty punch. I have no issues in sound department. I do have tv sound and Xbox one X runnng optical. Let me tell you the bad and good with this product. Only two hdmi ports and for this price at least 3. I was force to choose between Xbox, Apple 4k and Sony 4k player. Xbox got hammer because I have Atmos through headphones as a work around on Xbox. My second issue is no calibration available at this price point. My third issue sound tuns off after several mins of inactivity. This is way to short. Maybe an hour or having options available. Lastly I cannot purchase n950 rear Atmos speakers. The initial cost is too high. Sonos allows you to purchase rear speakers for their system. Samsung can do better. Overall I’m keeping soundbar because of dts x, Atmos, Harman Kardon. Samsung withheld so 4 stars out of 5.

    Sounds great!

I recently got this sound bar and all I can say is that this is the best sounding soundbar I’ve ever listened too. It’s also plus that the setup is pretty much a no-brainer. That said the overall sound is still forward heavy and not as immersive as I want to. Fortunately, there is an option to include the SWA-9000S wireless rear speakers in order to make the system a 7.1.2 system. Still below the HW-N950. But the good thing though is that Samsung put the SWA-9000S on sale and that made a whole lot of difference when I purchased. So this is a fairly cheap way to upgrade your system if you can’t justify the $400 price difference between the 950 and 850. With the rear speakers setup, here are now ambient sounds that I can hear which I didn’t hear before. And with teh benefits of Atmos/DTS-X and Harman Kardon drivers, honestly this is the only soundbar that I’ve heard that closely resembles cinema audio. Of course there are other great sounding systems out there, but the sound signature is just different. I’d strongly recommend this system!

Sound is awesome, bugs are not.

I have had the HW-N850 for the better part of two weeks now and the clear, loud sound it produces is amazing, even compared to the speaker/AV system it had replaced. Dolby Atmos is simply bad-a@@. I also am very happy with how music is produced as well. The 2 HDMI ports both handle Dolby Vision signals and video very well. Everything looks and sounds amazing as a whole. The bar/sub looks good, sounds good, and seems to be built very well.

But it isn’t all praise, the Samsung app is a horrible mess in my experience. To get the app/soundbar to work I had to remove and reinstall both the app and the SB from my Samsung account multiple times. After many attempts the App/SB has finally paired and appears to open and work as advertised. Also when watching a show or movie the sound will stop (the video keeps playing) and the only “fix” is to switch HDMI inputs back and forth. Pretty annoying.

I initially bought the system open-box but after a week, for the lack of a better word, “blew-up”. The bar made a horrible loud noise then all sound ceased to be produced. I don’t blame Samsung as it was an open-box so who knows what the previous owner had done, but it was surprising still. I returned it and paid the difference for a “new” one. (both of the issues I stated above I did not have on the open-box N850)

Absolute GARBAGE. Do yourself a favour. DON’T BUY!

Do NOT buy this GARBAGE! It is very unreliable and glitchy when it comes to the HDMI ARC. It fails to connect to the Samsung TV (Samsung UN82NU8000). It goes ON and OFF on its own failing to hold a steady connection. Without ARC, Dolby Atmos is virtually a useless feature. Therefore it is a very expensive piece of JUNK. I have called Samsung Tech support 4 times in less than 24 Hours and spent over 5 Hours and the tech team seemed very unaware and uneducated about their very own product. No help or solution to this problem. If searching the web for Samsung HDMI ARC issues or Samsung S Mute, there are plenty of negative reviews on this issue. I am very disappointed with Samsung. My whole household uses Samsung products, from appliances, phones, tablets, TV’s to Soundbar. This is by far the worst product that I have ever purchased. I will not recommend this product to my worst enemy. I have never taken my time to review any product, however, I feel that from my very own experience I need to save any potential customer from wasting their time and money with this product. I will be returning it ASAP!

Precise sound that fills the room!

I just set this up today and paired it with my QLED TV. The pair together really could not be a better match, even the TV remote works with the soundbar out of the box. This is an audiophile lovers soundbar, the sound replication is truly astounding for a soundbar, seems to fill the room from different directions. Overall I would rate this a great buy and money well spent. I have played music through it, played video games, and watched a few movies, the adjustments it makes for different types of audio are spot on. This is a plug and play system that also has great features you can adjust via the smart app, this is nearly perfect!

    Better than average

Only criticism is that Dolby Atmos is not as good as I had hoped but I have high ceilings and maybe this is the problem. Also, no mention in the manual about “virtual” setting. Not sure what it does.

Big Heavy Sound from a Big Heavy Soundbar

I gave Samsung another shot, after having owned several Samsung bars in the past that failed to impress. Usually I prefer a true surround setup, but for some rooms, like my bedroom, you just do not need or want the hassle of 5+ speakers sitting around. I am glad I took the chance with this sound bar. It rocks and produces room-filling sound. Unpacking it was quite a chore, as it is one of the heaviest soundbar systems I have ever encountered. I assume this is because it is made with quality components and metal as opposed to cheap plastics throughout. This is a LARGE sound bar, and it mounts under Samsung’s larger TVs (50 +inches). Keep this in mind before purchasing or you may have an odd-looking setup with a 48″ soundbar. I chose to pair it with my 50″ Samsung Frame TV in my bedroom, and it is a nice match width wise. The bar is thick, so I took a while to get used to how much it protrudes from the wall in relation to Samsung’s slim Frame TV. Sound wise, this bar does not disappoint. It has a wide field of sound and fills my 400sqft bedroom nicely. The Atmos sound effect is created by upward firing sound projectors/speakers, and it is a novelty. It does not work as well as a true Atmos speaker setup. Although, it might work better if I did not have cathedral ceilings in my bedroom. I had a Yamaha Sound projecting 7.1 soundbar without the Atmos feature, and I found that the surround effect on this unit was slightly better. Do not get me wrong though, this bar still sounds great and puts out far louder sound with less distortion had high volume levels. The included wireless sub-woofer is also nothing to laugh out; it is the loudest bass I have ever heard from a soundbar sub. Setup was a breeze, and this is due to having a Samsung TV. Things might be a little harder with a non-Samsung TV. The 4k pass through works well (it has 2 HDMI ports), and the bar sets itself to work perfectly with your existing Samsung TV remote. The only real problem I encountered was in paring the bar with the Samsung Phone app. This is a common theme among my Samsung products (i.e. robot vacuum). Finally, after several reboots, and phone power cycles, the app finally connected with the soundbar. The lack of an Ethernet port is puzzling, but not a deal breaker. Only two HDMI ports might be a problem for some. Overall, this is the first Samsung Soundbar that is worth $1,000+.

    Out of this WORLD!!!

I purchased Samsung HW-N850 Harman/Kardon Soundbar and Subwoofer w/ Dolby Atmos. Let us begin shall we? I am adding this to my Samsung SmartThings collection along with my Samsung Q7 65” 4K Smart TV. Combine the two together and it feels as though you are in a new dimension out of this world. The N850 comes packed with features included such as Dolby Atmos, 5.1.2 Channels with 372 Watts of Power. There are so many ways to connect to your devices via Wi-fi, Bluetooth, and/or HDMI directly to your tv. If you connect via HDMI you gain access to 2 more HDMI ports. The sound quality is phenomenal, makes you feel as though you are in the movies without the ticket prices in the comfort of your own home.

    Amazing sound quality

My TV already had good speakers its a Samsung 8 series, pairing this was amazingly easy and simple. The sound quality and volume you get out of it is just amazing makes you jump when watching a movie as the system makes it sound like they are really behind you. The sub makes amazing sound, truly helps you get lost in what you are watching.

    Big Soundbar, Even Bigger Sound

Holiday shopping is in full swing, which means an excuse to spend money on myself. I decided this year’s tech upgrade was going to be the sound system in the “man cave.” I’ve been using a Samsung HW-K550 since 2016, and I thought I’d go for an upgrade. Soundbars have made huge strides to close the gap that separates them from traditional home theater setups, but there has always been a lack of spatial and atmospheric sound. The HW-N850 has changed that in a big way. I’ve never felt so enveloped in sound outside a traditional theater. This soundbar has so many speakers firing in all directions that it wraps around the room like an expensive traditional system would. Now if you haven’t seen it in person, let me inform you that it is big — like, really big. I’ve attached an image of my HW-K550, which was already larger than most soundbars, sitting on top of my new HW-N850. This thing is easily three, almost four, times the size of my old one. I mean there are some serious speakers in this thing — 13 to be exact. I have a 55″ TV and this soundbar is the same width, so if your TV is smaller it will look kind of funny. Also, this doesn’t come with the rear speakers, but you can add wireless surround speakers later. There is an interesting sound setting called “Smart” that really showcases what this thing can do. The range is also absolutely stunning. The highs are crisp, the lows are rich, and the mids sound perfect, unlike some other soundbars that give the mids a muffled sound. Gaming and watching movies is insanely good on this system, but something I noticed specifically was how well it plays music. When I workout, I like to watch music videos for motivation. Soundbars I’ve had before weren’t strong at playing music, likely because there was a lack of range. This soundbar is amazing for music, and it gets loud, really loud. If you are looking for an expansive and encompassing system without all the wires and hassle, the HW-N850 will not disappoint.

    Great Soundbar

This soundbar is great. One of the reasons I didn’t get a sound system was because I was worrying about where to place the little surround sound speakers if I went that route. This route the soundbar has speakers on basically the entire product on most sides so the sound bounces to the ceiling and you don’t have to worry about a ton of randomly placed speakers. Apart from that convenience, the sound is truly amazing. Since I got this, I switched back to normal TV sound and don’t know how I did it. If you are looking for something like this product as I was, this is definitely recommended. I had the pleasure of reviewing this product as part of the Insiders program.

Premium Soundbar that replaces Home Theater

HW-N850 Sound bar from Samsung is a beast of a sound bar. At first, I was surprised by size of the box; actual length of sound bar also does not disappoint (?). I have a 65 inch TV and media storage that fits perfectly with N850 sound bar; so the size doesn’t bother me at all. I believe It actually is helpful to get a feel for true surround audio. I also have to point out that build quality is really top notch, and is very heavy for a sound bar; I think this is a good sign as good speakers generally have some weight to it. Setup was simple and easy. I realized there is a way to sync between TV and the sound bard via ARC. Basically connect HDMI cable on ARC HDMI ports on both devices. My Samsung Frame TV can work perfectly in conjunction with HW-N850. I felt like it’s one device after ARC setup as TV remote can control both. I also learned that this is a way to get the full effect of Atmos and all features of N850. I also connect my XBOX One X to one of the input port on the sound bar. I watched couple of UHD blu ray titles, including Planet Earth II and Life of Pi. The sound coming out from the box was absolutely amazing although its default bass level is bit too aggressive; so I had to decrease bass level a bit; personal taste. Later I realized that some Xbox One titles actually support Atmos, so I gave it a try. Final Fantasy XV. I definitely feel the difference with or without Atmos. I wish I can try some action movies. At the same time, I felt that it would be even better if I have surround speakers on the back. Luckily, optional wireless surround speakers (SWA-9000S) are available at a very low price. Will definitely try it. I would recommend Samsung HW-N850 to people would like to enjoy premium audio with without taking too much space. It also would eliminate all the complication of setting up multi speakers and wiring them all over the place.

How many things can go wrong with one product?

WHERE DO I BEGIN? I am so upset with this product. Sound from the bar, perfectly fine (1 part of 3 part system so I cannot judge in full)

Cannot, for the life of me, get the SUBWOOFER AND/OR REAR WIRELESS TO PAIR WITH SOUNDBAR. What a nightmare.

Anyways, to add to it, I cannot get an “exchange”, I have to ship it return, wait for refund, then re-purchase… Seriously?

To top it off, soundbar has issues connecting to my wifi (PS4 and smart TV working with it JUST FINE). Thus, the streaming music feature is useless. So I use BLUETOOTH, DA DADA!!!!!!!! Every 20 seconds or so it cuts out.

What am I paying for even? Why cant this just work out of the box, jeeze. Not an experience overall that I am happy with, but guidelines for posting do not allow me to elaborate.

x-mass gift for the family I am not a tech guy just plumber . The sound out of the bar is very good 4.5. That said the sub will not raze or lower in volume and is vary finicky . We also got the rear speakers swa 9000s which will not link up either ,so we exchanged for a new set and now the led light will blink blue the go to solid then to red NO sound. I am super frustrated . And one last thing poor instruction manual .

    Blown away

When you purchase a new television another component you’re probably going to need is a nice sound bar. I’m definitely a witness to say that it can be quite a challenge to find the perfect fit, so to say that I’ve been researching for the perfect sound bar for my 65 inch curved TV would be an understatement. Unpacking it out of the box you can tell right away the quality of the N850 just by how heavy it is, and when I say that I mean it in a good way it gives it a premium high quality feel, and on top of that it looks good as well. Connecting it to the TV was no problem at all, since I was connecting it to my Samsung TV it recognized the product without hassle and we were ready to go. The N850 has features such as Dolby Atmos, 5.1.2 Channels with 372 Watts of Power so at times it makes you feel like you’re a part of the action on screen. Another great feature is the sound bar can play and stream music through Bluetooth so you can enjoy the highs and bumping bass of your favorite tunes. I mentioned earlier about the how heavy it was but it’s also a nice to look at as well with it’s rounded edges and steel grates it compliments your surroundings. After having the N850 for close to a month now I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase. It fits well in my Samsung ecosystem and more than anything it performs well beyond what I would have imagined since yes, it’s a sound bar for the TV but the fact it can stream music as well takes it up a notch on the rating.

The soundbar supports Amazon music and not Spotify. I like the soundbar, but every time I reach out to support, they direct me to the user manual. When that fails, apologizes abound: “I am sorry there is no information at the moment”.
